José María González Granado

José María González Granado obtained his degree in Biology in the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) in Spain in 1999. He did his Ph.D. in the UAM between 2000 and 2004 studying the effect of hypertension in small arteries obtaining the mention of European Doctor and the "Premio Extraordinario de Doctorado" award. During his Ph.D. he stayed 16 months in the IBLS (Institute of Biomedical and Life Sciences) of the University of Glasgow in the UK supported by a Marie Curie Training grant to study the distribution of the ß-adrenoceptors in blood vessels. Then he moved to Valencia in Spain to continue his career as a postdoctoral investigator in the group of Dr Vicente Andrés at the IBV-CSIC, dedicating 5 years to the study of the molecular mechanisms of atherosclerosis and laminopathies. During some of these years, he was under a "Sara Borrell" contract that gave him the opportunity of spending 18 months in the group of Dr Francisco Sanchez-Madrid in the CNIC in Madrid, Spain, where he improved his knowledge of the immune system. Now, he is still working in the Laboratory of Dr Vicente Andres in the CNIC as a postdoctoral investigator studying the origin of laminopathies and the importance of A-type lamins in the immune system.
